Medium Red Clover Seeds (Trifolium pratense)

Medium Red Clover - Trifolium pratense - A perfect legume for use as a cover crop to loosen soil and provide nutrients between seasons. It is a short-lived perennial. Unlike other legumes it is great at rectifying nitrogen elements in the soil. A good companion planting would be Timothy Grass or Alfalfa. Quick and easy to grow.

Seeding Rate: 10-15lbs. per acre or 1/2 lb. per 1000 sq. ft. for smaller plantings.

Planting Instructions: When to Sow this Mixture: Spring and Early or Late Summer is the best time to seed. Avoid seeding the hotter parts of the summer or extremely hot days. How to Sow: Remove all existing growth and sow evenly over the area. We suggest compressing for a good seed to soil contact without pushing the seeds beneath the soil. Keep watered and moist until the seedlings are about 4 inches high and then watering can be reduced. How to Maintain: Clover does not need fertilizer. Clover acts as a green fertilizer if trimmed and is a great for aeration as the roots work into the soil. It is also a great nitrogen booster. Mow once in mid-summer and once about 4-6 weeks before the first fall frost. Do not use herbicides. Purchase a bit extra seed of this mix to fill in any sparse areas that may occur.
