Winter Ryegrass (Secale cereale)
Considering growing a cover crop? There are many to choose from but winter rye is one of the best. Winter rye is the most winter hardy of all the cereal grains. It tolerates temperatures down to -30 F. Easy to sow, grows in all soils including low fertility soils, and easy to till under in Spring. Erosion control, helps to rectify nitrogen, adds organic matter, Sow in the fall near the first light frost.

Seeding Rate: 50-100 lbs. per acre or 2 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. for small plantings
